Everything you need to know about Insurance

I accept Insurance and private pay

Anxiety, intense overwhelm, life transitional stress and some acute stress are considered mental health issues that can be billed to insurance. Only licensed providers can bill for the services.  As I offer one on one educational sessions, we can look into your medical benefits.

Note in order to use your insurance you have to meet a mental diagnosis  (deemed medically necessary), which is described in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM–5)  List of common diagnoses used in insurance billing that is based on DSM-V. If you do not meet any criteria for a mental diagnosis you can simply be private pay.

You may still have to pay your insurance contracted rate (see below) because most plans require you to meet your deductible before your benefits will be applied. This is one reason why I offer group classes.  :-)

Currently, I accept United Health Care,  Blue Cross Blue Shields, Aetna, Cigna and Healthchoice.  The cost of the session will depend on your insurance.   Every policy is different but once you meet your deductible most will pay 20-30% of the cost of the session, on average most clients pay between $20-40 a session after they have met their deductible.

This is how all this works....(don't worry if I lose you...I'll explain in person)

I will check your policy online - though online shows me very limited info

  • Online will not tell me if you have to meet your deductible first,  I have to bill the insurance first.

  • This means if I was only collecting your co-pay at each session (and you have to meet your deductible before you can just pay your co-pay) then I will have to bill you the difference between the co-pay you paid and the contract rate for each session

    • For example, if you end up having to meet the deductible first,  say your co-pay is $30 and you have BCBS then you will owe an additional $62 for each past session where I just took your co-pay.  The BCBS (for Blue Choice) contracted rate is $92.   So, each session for BCBS (Blue Choice) is $92 until you reach your medical deductible.

    • I will get the payment information from the insurance provider in 2-4 weeks, so we may have had 2-3 sessions before we know about your deductible, so you can see it can add up -

    • I want you to be informed so you can make the right financial decision for yourself and be educated on how insurance works with mental health.

    • PLEASE DON'T WORRY....I CAN ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS IF NONE OF THIS MAKES SENSE.

SO....MY TOP ADVICE

It is best if you call the number on the back of your card and speak to the customer representative. You ask them if you have to meet your deductible first before your benefits apply and then what is your co-pay.

If you have to meet your deductible first, I will let you know the contracted rate from your insurance company, which is set by the insurance provider and not myself ($70-$125 per hour).

Private Pay:

Around 1 hour for coaching counseling sessions: $90

Due to the educational component of our sessions, the counseling session may last a tad longer than the traditional 1 hour but I don't charge extra for going 15 minutes over our time.
