Mindfulness and Self Compassion Sessions
I created this themed counseling session based on experiences from great teachers, as Tara Brach, Jack Kornfield, Paul Gilbert, Kristin Neff, Mary NurrierStearns and learning about compassion through Buddhist teachers as Pema Chodron, Dalai Lama, Tich Nhich Hanh and Sharon Salzberg. There are many more!
The sessions are SECULAR but can be modified to fit your belief system.
In our time together we explore the following themes based on your needs and experiences:
What is self-compassion as it relates to you?
Experiences of practicing compassion
Review mindfulness and how it relates to our practice
Practice short self-compassion meditations - I will introduce you to 7 meditation and several informal practices designed to evoke mindfulness and self-compassion in your daily life
You will receive a recording of the meditations
You will be given a reference list on the research on self-compassion
Will have self-compassion experiences to practice in-between sessions
We will have a few sessions related to how your nervous system impacts your emotional states. This education will increase your ability to invite more self-compassion.
Weekly or bi-weekly sessions (1 hour to 1.5 hours)
The total number of sessions will vary for each client, on average I would estimate 3 months for weekly sessions or 6 months for bi-weekly. But again, every client is different and you may, of course, end our sessions at any time or you may need more time practicing with concepts. Then you can always request "tune-up" sessions as needed to further support yourself in this journey called life!
I do like to encourage a start and estimated end date as a way to encourage a sense of completion, independence, and self-resiliency.
I will discuss material based on how to increase your self-compassion for self and naturally when we have an increase in compassion for ourself it's easier to give to others. Each session you will be gifted with new information. I will have a visual presentation for all of us visual learners out there! This is the educational part of the session.
In the second half of our session, we will have a counseling conversation on your personal experiences and we will also discuss your experiences putting into practice what you have learned. I can not stress enough the importance of putting into practice what we discuss in our sessions. I moved to this type of format because I want to see my clients move forward with their goals.
In each session, we will practice with a brief self-compassion meditation and you will be given a recording to practice during your week. In addition to the meditation, you will be given several practices to try throughout the week. In our follow-up sessions, we will discuss your experiences of practicing the learned concepts. Please note, no pressure to do any homework, I offer this type of counseling experience to help you apply the principles to your life so you feel you are making progress.
